SAVED BY "FLINT"
On last Tuesday night, “IN LIKE FLINT” was just as much fun as Sharon and I had remembered it to be. The late Jerry Goldsmith’s music was excellent, as always. The film also saved us from watching the guy who lives in The White House, which kept my digestion and my blood pressure in the normal range and helped to guard against injury to the middle finger of my right hand. After “Derek Flint” had saved the world from a conspiracy involving a fake President and traitors who were out to control the world, we flipped over to FOX News. Sadly, the guy who lives in The White House was still talking. We got off that as quickly as possible and caught fifteen or twenty minutes of another film. At last, when we turned once again to FOX News, there was a FOX News panel critiquing the Address – and being “fair and balanced,” I might add. Then, as Sharon and I had hoped for, we caught the excellent Republican Response, delivered by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, former Director of The U.S. Office of Management and Budget under George W. Bush. The major point, as we understood it, is that the Republicans want to see America once again become a nation of “haves” and “soon-to-haves,” rather than a land where initiative is condemned, small business is beaten to death by never ending numbers of government regulations and the jobs situation in America does not improve. Lots better than what the other guy said, I’m sure, and much easier on the stomach. Have a nice day! JERRY

Hi Jerry, I was cataloging my books today and ran across a stack of your books. I've been a fan of The Survivalist since the 80s. I hadn't read them all and am going to try and hunt the rest down.
On another topic, I thought I'd comment on your political views. I skimmed through a number of your posts to get a sense of where you were coming from. Where am I coming from? Canada. I've been a watcher of American, Canadian and world politics for as long as I can remember.
You bash the current Democratic president, and rightfully so. He's doing a terrible job. Do you really think the Republicans are going to do any better though? I've come to the realization that there really is little difference between the two parties.
Both parties do little to help the situation of the average American, and much to enrich the corporations that contribute to both parties.
Unfortunately the Bush presidency led to the 2008 crash and his two wars have left the US practically broke. Bush started the bailouts and Obama continued them. Seems to me that a truly capitalist system would have let the banks fail. Short term pain for long term gain. If investors are going to take huge risks (and break the law in some cases) they shouldn't have their mistakes backstopped by taxpayers.
On the surface deregulation seems like a great thing, but that's exactly what led to the situation we're in now. Perhaps if the Glass Steagall Act had been left in place the economy wouldn't have tanked as it has. Government does have a role in regulating the economy and helping to provide a level playing field for all business and especially consumers.
No matter which party is elected, I don't expect things are going to change either way. I'd be curious to hear your views on this.
Have you committed to any particular Republican candidate? Looks like Romney is going to take it, but we'll see.
One last thing. You should consider moderating your comments so you can eliminate the spammers. All you'd have to do is log in periodically and clear them out and approve the real comments. :)
